Business Contingency Management Questions

  • Can your organization recover from a disaster within a desired length of time?

  • What would be the impact to your organization of a prolonged outage of all IT systems?

  • What would be the impact to your organization of a prolonged outage of all voice communications systems including fax?

  • Do you have customers, organizations or business units that your services are critical to?

  • Would you know how to contact them?

  • Do you depend on web based applications for critical business functions?

  • Do you maintain up-to-date employee rosters, contact information, inventory lists, software inventories, communication and IT equipment inventories?

  • Do you have at least one person who devotes at least 50% of their time responsible for business contingency management?

  • Have you considered alternate sites?

  • If you have a plan do you keep it up-to-date?

  • Is your plan written in a common sense clear, concise writing style?

  • Is it in an easy to maintain format?

  • Have you included vendor information for key vendors you depend on?

  • Do you know how to access vital records stored off-site and do you have established procedures for doing this?

  • Have you provided information regarding insurance, legal and financial support that may be required?

  • Have you considered addressing the media?

  • If you do not have a Business Contingency Plan, why not?
